- When I upgraded my A3000 to an '040 (3640), I found that the FPU version
- of Caligari 24 no longer works. Apparently, it wants to see a real '881
- or '882, not the FPU on the '040. I can run the Integer version, but it
- is horribly slow. For example, a simple animation that took 2 hours, 40
- minutes on my machine with an '030 and the FPU version of Caligari 24 took
- 2 hours and 20 minutes with the '040 and the integer version of Caligari.
- Needless to say, a mere 13% speed improvement is a little disappointing
- for an upgrade that supposedly (according to SysInfo) quadrupled the speed
- of my system. I know some of that rendering time is dependent on disk
- access speeds to save frames, etc., but still..
-
- When I try to start the FPU version, the machine simply locks up. BTW,
- the same is true of Scenery Animator 4.0, except that it gurus the machine.
-
- Is this normal? Is there any way around it, to get it to use the FPU
- versions of these programs?
-
- Also, SysInfo does report for FPU, "68040+68882", so the machine knows it's
- there.
